Hi friends 🧡 This week I kept seeing the same idea from different directions. Your AI is starting to come to you instead of waiting to be asked, and the instructions you write for it are starting to travel with you from app to app. That makes what you put in those instructions matter more than ever. Here's what matters.

Claude now has an assistant that comes to you

What happened

On October 21, Anthropic introduced Claude Duet, a research preview of a proactive assistant app. Each morning it sends a short brief on the most important items across your connected apps, and it can keep working on tasks in the background. It asks for your approval before it sends messages, makes payments, signs documents or deletes anything. It is open by waitlist to Pro and Max subscribers in the US, on iOS, Android and claude.ai.

What it means for you

This is the closest thing yet to the "assistant who checks your inbox before you're awake." It shares your plan's usage limits, so a busy Duet eats into your allowance. Free plan or outside the US? Ignore it for now.

Do this

If you're on Pro or Max in the US, join the waitlist, and before you connect anything, write down the three things you never want it to do without asking you.

Your skills can now travel between AI apps

What happened

On October 22, Anthropic donated Agent Skills to the Agentic AI Foundation, part of the Linux Foundation. Skills are the little instruction folders that teach an AI how to do a task your way. Anthropic says more than 70 agent platforms, including ChatGPT, Cursor, GitHub Copilot and VS Code, already use the standard.

What it means for you

A skill you write once is no longer locked into one company. Your "answer a client inquiry" skill can follow you if you switch tools. The good ones you write are now worth keeping.

Google is testing one home for your whole business

What happened

Search Engine Roundtable spotted Google Business Home on October 22. Google's help page calls it a closed beta built with Gemini models that pulls your Business Profile, Merchant Center, YouTube and Ads into one place, with AI content tools, review replies, hours updates and suggested next steps.

What it means for you

Google says it is only for select business categories in the US and the UK, for verified profiles with fewer than 10 locations, by email invitation. Most of you won't have it yet, but Google clearly wants your Business Profile to be the hub.

Do this

Check that your Google Business Profile hours, services and photos are current.

You can now shop straight from Google search

What happened

Search Engine Roundtable reports that Google's Universal Cart is now live in US search. Product listings show "Add to cart" buttons, the cart sits at the top of the results page, and checkout runs through Google Pay.

What it means for you

If you sell physical products, shoppers can now add your item to a cart without ever landing on your website. That makes your product listing on Google (photos, price, sizes, stock) do the selling your product page used to do. If you sell services only, you can skip this one.

Instagram says it won't bury your AI posts, but labels are coming

What happened

In his weekly Q&A, Instagram head Adam Mosseri said Instagram does not throttle the reach of AI content just for being AI, Social Media Today reported on October 19. He also said Instagram wants people to know when something was made with AI and plans to add more labels and encourage creators to tag their own AI content.

What it means for you

The algorithm may not punish AI images, but your followers might, and a label tells them instantly. Use AI to draft and plan. Keep your face, your voice and your real photos front and center.

Watch out for the fake FTC phone call

What happened

On October 22, the FTC warned about callers pretending to be FTC officials. They say your phone number was linked to crimes, threaten to shut off your phone, pass you to a fake police officer, tell you to keep it secret, and eventually ask for money as a "security deposit."

What it means for you

Not an AI story, but it's the playbook AI makes easier: an official voice, urgency and secrecy. The FTC says a real employee will never ask for money, threaten your phone or demand secrecy. Share this with whoever answers your business phone.

Jam's take

Here's the part nobody is saying about the skills news. When everyone hears "skills work everywhere now," the instinct is to go download a hundred of them. Please don't. Researchers at UCSB and MIT CSAIL tested 34,198 real skills and found Claude's success rate dropped from 55% to 38% when it had to pick the right skill on its own, and it only loaded an available skill about half the time. Their recommendation was a small set of well-written in-house skills over a big library. That matches what I see in Club Jam. The owners getting great results have a handful of files about THEIR business: who they serve, how they sound, what they sell. Now those files travel with you to whatever comes next. Write six files about your business, not six hundred downloads.

One thing to try before Monday

Set a 10-minute timer and open a blank note called "How I talk to clients." Write five sentences you actually say, two phrases you never use, and how you sign off. Paste it into your Claude or ChatGPT project instructions. That one note will do more for your results than any skill you could download this week.
