If you have ever typed "is Claude better than ChatGPT" or "Gemini vs ChatGPT" into Google at 11pm, this one is for you.

I get this question every single week. In Club Jam, on webinars, in my DMs. And here is the honest answer: there is no single "best" AI. There is the best AI for the job you need done.

So instead of another chart full of benchmark scores nobody understands, I lined up Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini side by side on 7 real business jobs. The stuff you actually do on a Tuesday. By the end you will know which one to start with, which one to add later, and which one you can skip for now.

Let's get into it.

The quick answer

If you only read one section, read this one.

  • Pick Claude if your work is mostly writing, thinking, planning, and building systems for your business. It is my daily driver.
  • Pick ChatGPT if you want the most familiar, all-around tool with a huge library of features, including images and voice.
  • Pick Gemini if your business already lives in Google (Gmail, Docs, Drive) and you want AI right inside the tools you open every day.

All three have a free plan. All three have a paid plan around $20 a month. You do not have to marry one forever. Start with one, get good at it, then add a second if you need it.

Quick definitions

Model: the "brain" inside the app. Each company has a few models, from fast and light to slow and powerful.

Context window: how much the AI can read and remember in one conversation. Bigger means you can hand it longer documents.

Connectors: links that let the AI read and work inside your other apps, like your email, calendar, or files.

Memory: the AI remembering things about you and your business across chats, so you do not have to repeat yourself.

What each one costs in 2026

Here is the side-by-side as of today. I am only listing the plans most small business owners will actually consider.

Plan levelClaudeChatGPTGemini
Free$0$0$0
BudgetNoneGo, $8/mo (may include ads)Google AI Plus, $4.99/mo
Main paid planPro, $20/mo (or $17/mo billed yearly)Plus, $20/moGoogle AI Pro, $19.99/mo
Power userMax, from $100/moPro, $100, $200, or $500/moGoogle AI Ultra, from $99.99/mo

A few things worth knowing:

  • Claude's free plan includes web search, file creation, memory, connectors, and Artifacts, but uses the lighter Sonnet and Haiku models. Pro adds Projects, Claude Code, Claude in Chrome, and access to the more powerful Opus model.
  • ChatGPT Go is the cheapest paid option, but it may show ads. If you want the full breakdown of ChatGPT's plans, I wrote one yesterday: ChatGPT Go vs Plus vs Pro.
  • Google AI Pro comes bundled with 5 TB of Google storage and Gemini inside Gmail and Docs. If you already pay Google for storage, that changes the math.

For Claude specifically, here is every Claude plan explained.

7 business jobs, side by side

1. Writing marketing that sounds like you

My pick: Claude.

This is where I see the biggest difference, and it is why I teach Claude first. Claude's writing tends to come out warmer and less "AI-ish" right out of the gate. When you give it examples of your own writing and a clear description of your voice, it holds that voice really well across emails, posts, and blogs.

ChatGPT can absolutely write well too. It just takes a little more coaching to stop it from sounding like a press release. Gemini is solid for quick drafts, especially inside Google Docs, but I find I edit its marketing copy more.

Whichever you use, the secret is the same: feed it your voice up front. I break that down in how to train Claude to sound like you.

2. Working inside your email and documents

My pick: Gemini if you live in Google. Claude if you use a mix of tools.

Gemini's superpower is that it is already built into Gmail and Docs on the Google AI Pro plan. No setup. You open your inbox and it is right there.

Claude takes a different approach with connectors. You link it to Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, Microsoft 365, and lots of other business apps, and then Claude can read and work across all of them from one chat. It takes a few minutes to set up, and then it feels like having an assistant who can see everything. Here is how to connect Claude to your business tools.

ChatGPT also offers app connections. Check what is available on your plan, since features vary by tier.

3. Creating images for social media

My pick: ChatGPT or Gemini.

Both ChatGPT and Gemini have strong built-in image generation, and Gemini includes image creation and editing even on its free plan. If your main job is making graphics, thumbnails, or product shots, start with one of these two.

Claude is better at the thinking behind the image: writing the prompt, planning the carousel, and writing the caption. A lot of my members use Claude to plan and ChatGPT or Gemini to make the picture.

4. Research and getting up to speed fast

My pick: a tie, depending on what you are researching.

All three can search the web. Gemini offers Deep Research even on its free plan, and Google AI Pro gives you a 1 million token context window, which means you can hand it very long documents. ChatGPT has its own deep research tools on paid plans. Claude's web search is included on the free plan and is great for turning a pile of sources into a clear, plain summary you can act on.

My honest tip: for important decisions, ask two of them the same question and compare. It takes two minutes and catches a lot of mistakes.

5. Building systems and repeatable workflows

My pick: Claude.

This is where Claude pulls ahead for business owners who want to stop starting from scratch every day. Projects let you save your business info in one place. Skills let you teach Claude a process once and reuse it forever. Connectors let it work inside your tools. Put those together and you go from "chatting with AI" to running an actual system.

If that sounds like what you want, read Claude is not a chatbot.

6. Talking out loud and thinking on the go

My pick: ChatGPT or Gemini.

If you like to brainstorm while driving or walking the dog, voice matters. ChatGPT's voice mode is the one most people already know, and Gemini Live is included free. Claude has a mobile app too, but if voice is your main way of working, test the other two first.

7. Team use

My pick: whatever your team already uses.

Seriously. The best AI for a team is the one people will actually open. If your team is all-in on Google Workspace, Gemini is the easy yes. If you are on Microsoft, Claude works inside Microsoft 365 on its Pro plan, and many teams also look at Copilot. If your team is starting fresh and wants to build real workflows, Claude is what I recommend and what I train teams on.

So which one should you start with?

Here is how I walk people through it:

  1. Do you mostly write, plan, and want to build systems? Start with Claude.
  2. Is your whole business inside Gmail and Google Docs? Start with Gemini.
  3. Do you want the most familiar tool, plus images and voice in one place? Start with ChatGPT.

Then use the free plan for one week. Do real work in it, not test questions. If you keep hitting limits, that is your sign to upgrade to the $20 plan.

Want an even deeper look at just two of them? Here is Claude vs ChatGPT for small business: 8 real jobs side by side.

Quick tip

Do not pay for all three. Seriously. Most business owners get plenty of value from one paid plan plus the free version of a second tool. Pick your main one, get really good at it, and use the free one as a backup and second opinion.

The mistake I see most often

People switch tools every time they hear a new announcement. A new model drops, they jump ship, they lose all their saved instructions and memory, and they start over.

The truth is, all three of these tools are excellent now. The person who gets results is not the one with the "best" AI. It is the one who set theirs up with their business info, their voice, and their processes, and then actually used it every day.

Pick one. Set it up properly. Use it daily for 30 days. That beats tool-hopping every single time.

Frequently asked questions

Is Claude better than ChatGPT?

For writing that sounds human, long thinking tasks, and building repeatable business systems, I think Claude is better. For images, voice, and an all-in-one familiar app, ChatGPT is a great choice. It depends on the job.

Is Gemini better than ChatGPT?

If you run your business in Google Workspace, Gemini can be more convenient because it lives inside Gmail and Docs on the Google AI Pro plan. Google AI Pro also includes 5 TB of storage at $19.99 a month. For general use, the two are close, so try both free plans.

Claude vs Gemini: which is better for small business?

Claude is stronger for writing in your voice and building systems with Projects, Skills, and connectors. Gemini is stronger if you want AI built right into Google apps with no setup. Many business owners use Claude as their main tool and Gemini inside Gmail.

Which AI is cheapest?

All three have free plans. For paid plans, Google AI Plus is $4.99 a month and ChatGPT Go is $8 a month (and may include ads). The main paid plans for all three are around $20 a month. Check the official pricing pages since prices change.

Can I use more than one AI?

Yes, and many people do. A simple setup is one paid plan for your daily work and a free plan of a second tool for images, voice, or a second opinion on important answers.

Do I need a paid plan to get good results?

No. You can get real value from any of the free plans. Upgrade when you keep hitting limits or need a paid feature, like Claude Projects or Gemini inside Gmail.
