If you run an online store, you already know the feeling. You opened the shop to sell things you love, and somehow you became a full-time copywriter, email marketer, customer service desk, and SEO person too. All before lunch.
The good news is that AI can now take a real chunk of that off your plate. The confusing news is that there are about a thousand tools claiming to do it. So instead of a giant list, I am going to walk you through this the way I teach it: one job at a time. Pick the job that eats the most of your week, match it with the right tool, and start there.
Tools and features below were checked on Oct 23, 2026. AI tools change fast, so always confirm current plans and pricing on each company's own page before you sign up.
Before you pick a tool, pick the job
Here is the mistake I see store owners make over and over. They sign up for an AI tool because a friend loves it, then try to make it fit their business. That is backwards. Start with the job you hate most, or the one that keeps you up past 10pm, and work from there.
Most online stores have the same five time-eating jobs:
- Writing product descriptions
- Sending customer emails (welcome, abandoned cart, win-back)
- Answering support questions like "where is my order?"
- Getting found on Google and in AI search
- Keeping an eye on sales, inventory, and what is working
Let's take them one at a time.
Quick definitions
Flow: an automated email series that sends on its own when something happens, like a customer leaving items in their cart.
Connector: a secure link that lets an AI assistant like Claude see and work with another app, such as your Shopify store, after you approve it.
WISMO: short for "Where is my order?", the single most common customer service question in ecommerce.
Job 1: Writing product descriptions
Best built-in pick: Shopify Sidekick
If your store is on Shopify, start with what you already pay for. According to Shopify's own page, Sidekick is included with your Shopify plan at no extra charge (features and usage limits vary by plan). It can write product copy, including SEO-focused descriptions, right inside your admin. It can even help turn phone photos into studio-style product shots.
This is the easiest win on the whole list. No new account, no new login, no learning curve.
Best for sounding like you: Claude
Built-in tools are fast, but they can sound a little like everyone else's store. When I want product copy that sounds like the actual owner, I use Claude. Give it a few of your best-selling descriptions, a sentence about who buys from you, and the details of the new product, and ask it to write in that same voice.
Here is a prompt you can copy:
Here are three product descriptions from my store that customers love: [paste]. My customer is [describe them in one sentence]. Write a description for [new product] using the same tone, length, and style. Include the materials, size, and one reason it makes a great gift.
One rule no matter which tool you use: read every description before it goes live. AI can get facts wrong, like a fabric or a measurement, and your customers will notice.
Job 2: Customer emails that send themselves
Best pick: Klaviyo
Email is where online stores make a lot of their repeat sales, and it is also where most owners are quietly leaving money on the table because they never set up the basics. Klaviyo is built for ecommerce and plugs into most store platforms.
The AI part that matters for busy owners: Klaviyo's Flows AI lets you describe the email series you want, and it builds the flow for you, including the triggers and timing. Klaviyo keeps adding AI features, and some are fully released while others are still in beta, so check what's new in Klaviyo to see what your account has.
If you only set up three flows this year, make them these:
- Welcome series for new subscribers
- Abandoned cart for people who almost bought
- Post-purchase thank you that asks for a review
Use Claude or ChatGPT to write the actual email copy in your voice, then paste it into the flow Klaviyo builds. That combo is fast and it still sounds like you.
Job 3: Answering support questions
Best pick for Shopify stores: Gorgias AI Agent
If you are drowning in "Where is my order?" emails, this is the job to automate first. Gorgias is a helpdesk made for online stores, and its AI Agent can answer order tracking questions by pulling the tracking info straight from Shopify. You can see it in the Shopify App Store, along with real reviews from store owners.
Read those reviews, by the way. Most owners say it handles routine tickets well, and a few say the AI promised customers things the store could not actually do. That is not a reason to skip it. It is a reason to set it up carefully.
How to set up AI support without the drama
- Start with only one or two question types, like order tracking and return policy.
- Give the AI your real policies in writing. It can only be as accurate as what you give it.
- Tell it what it is never allowed to promise (refunds outside your policy, rush shipping you do not offer).
- Have a human hand-off for anything upset, unusual, or high-dollar.
- Read a sample of AI answers every week for the first month.
Quick tip
Before you buy any support tool, open Claude or ChatGPT and paste in your shipping, return, and exchange policies. Ask it: "What questions would a confused customer still have after reading this?" You will find the gaps in your policies, and you will probably cut your support emails before you automate a single one.
Job 4: Getting found on Google and in AI search
Best pick: Shopify Sidekick plus Claude
Shoppers are not only searching Google anymore. They are asking AI assistants what to buy. Either way, the stores that get found tend to have clear product titles, helpful descriptions, and pages that actually answer questions.
Sidekick can write SEO-focused product descriptions inside Shopify. For the bigger picture, I use Claude to do things like:
- Rewrite vague product titles so they say what the product actually is
- Write short meta descriptions for every collection page
- Draft a simple FAQ for your top products, using the real questions customers email you
- Turn your most common support questions into a helpful blog post
That last one is my favorite. Your inbox is full of the exact questions your future customers are typing into search. Answer them on your site and you get found by the people who are already looking.
Job 5: Keeping an eye on the business
Best pick: Claude with the Shopify connector
This is the newest and, honestly, the most fun one. Shopify now has an official Shopify connector for Claude. Once you connect it and approve access in your Shopify admin, Claude can work with the products, collections, inventory, orders, customers, discounts, and analytics for a store you own. According to Shopify's help center, there is no extra Shopify fee for using the connector. It connects to one store at a time.
That means you can ask questions in normal words, like:
- "Which products sold best last month, and which ones are almost out of stock?"
- "Who are my repeat customers who haven't ordered in 90 days?"
- "Set up a 15% discount code for my email list that ends Sunday."
Sidekick also gives weekly performance summaries and low-stock alerts inside Shopify, so if you prefer to stay in one place, start there. The connector is great when you want to mix store data with everything else you do in Claude, like writing the email that goes with that discount.
A safety note: when an AI can make changes to your store, have it show you what it is about to do before it does it. Ask "show me the plan first" until you trust the setup.
How to start this week (without overwhelm)
Do not try to automate all five jobs at once. That is how people end up with five half-set-up tools and the same full inbox. Here is the order I would go in for most small stores:
- This week: use Sidekick or Claude to rewrite your five best-selling product descriptions.
- Next week: build your welcome and abandoned cart flows.
- Week three: fix your policy pages, then decide if you need AI support.
- Week four: connect Claude to your store and ask it your first real business question.
One job at a time. That is how this stuff actually sticks.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best AI tool for ecommerce automation?
There is no single best tool, because each one is built for a different job. For most Shopify stores, a strong starting set is Shopify Sidekick for product copy, Klaviyo for email flows, Gorgias for support, and Claude for writing in your voice and working with your store data through the Shopify connector.
Do I need to know how to code to use these tools?
No. Every tool in this post works by typing what you want in normal sentences. The Shopify connector for Claude is installed from inside Claude and approved in your Shopify admin, with no code involved.
Is Shopify Sidekick free?
Shopify says Sidekick is included with your Shopify plan at no extra charge, with features and usage limits that vary by plan. Check Shopify's Sidekick page for what your plan includes.
Will AI customer service upset my customers?
It can if you set it up loosely. Start with simple questions like order tracking, give the AI your exact policies, list what it can never promise, and always offer a path to a real person. Review its answers weekly at first.
Can AI write product descriptions that sound like my brand?
Yes, if you show it examples. Paste in a few descriptions you love, describe your customer in a sentence, and ask the AI to match that style. Always read the result before publishing so the facts are right.
What about stores that are not on Shopify?
Claude and ChatGPT work for any store, since you can paste in product details and policies directly. Klaviyo connects to many ecommerce platforms beyond Shopify. Check each tool's integrations page for your platform.
